An annotated look at the week in Oregon tech
It’s Friday, so here are some notes on the people and news from the week that was in Oregon technology, and a look forward at the weeks ahead…
FINANCIALS
• HP announced perfectly respectable quarterly results, under the circumstances, but had more grim news from its printer group and on the job front.
• Bend’s G5 Search Marketing reports 132 percent growth in quarterly revenues for Q1. The company now employs 42 and is in the process of adding three more positions.
ON THE JOBS FRONT...
• Oregon’s employment picture, and the state’s high-tech jobs scene, remained grim. But for the first time in a while, things didn’t get much worse.
• Tektronix announced further cutbacks…
• …while Teseda scaled back to a “minimal” level.
ON THE CALENDAR
• At 9 a.m. next Friday, May 29, I’ll host an online chat on this blog with three venture capitalists who have been recently active funding Oregon companies. More details coming early next week.
• On June 2, Credit Suisse will sponsor an all-day workshop for startups seeking funding, called “How to Get Investor Ready”. It’s at the Open Technology Business Center.
• Open Source Bridge runs from June 17 to 19 at the Oregon Convention Center.
• Ignite Portland 6 is July 16.
• The first LinuxCon is Sept. 21 – 23 at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront.
